Knockroon is a building development, including housing and shops, on the estate of Dumfries House, near the Ayrshire town of Cumnock.
Dumfries House, an 18th-century Palladian style country house, was in the news in 2007 when it and its entire contents, and surrounding estate, were purchased for £45m for the country by a consortium headed by Prince Charles.
Dumfries House, an 18th-century Palladian style country house, was in the news in 2007 when it and its entire contents, and surrounding estate, were purchased for £45m for the country by a consortium headed by Prince Charles.
The intention was to preserve the house with its original 18th-century furniture and furnishings, while renovating the estate to become self-sufficient. Knockroon is part of this project and has been designed to reflect Ayrshire architecture traditions.
