They Serve Us in London: Ayrshire's MPs (2) Elaine Stewart

Elaine Stewart, the Labour MP for Ayr, Carrick, and Cumnock is an ex-punk rocker with an openly gay son, who worked as a nanny for one year in New York.

This will hopefully give her a broad enough outlook to perform her parliamentary duties well. From her photos she looks nice. However, professionally, the ex-South Ayrshire councillor, has been deeply embedded in the tax-and-grant-funded economy for a long time, rather than the part of the economy that ultimately makes things and pays the taxes.

She lives in Kilmarnock, and went to Doon Academy from 1981-84, from where she skipped university and eventually found her way into charity work and charity jobs.

She then attempted to fill the gaps in her education through the Open University (2002) and doing a degree at University of Stirling on something child-related (2016). In 2002 she also got on the council and served as vice chair of education for 4 years. In addition to her openly gay son, she has an adopted daughter.

She has no public links to Momentum, left-wing campaigns, or organised right/centrist factions  like Progress or Labour Friends of Israel.
