3rd MARCH, 1960: ELVIS IN AYRSHIRE

Here at Errshurr, we have already mentioned our humble county's association with rock royalty, going from David Bowie at the Grand Hall Kilmarnock and Keith Moon appearing before the beaks in Ayr to Oasis doing one of their classic gigs at Irvine Beach and The Smiths debuting five songs at the now-demolished Magnum Leisure Centre. But the biggest name to brave our shores was undoubtedly "the King" himself Elvis Presley.

The photo above shows Elvis meeting fans briefly at Prestwick Airport, where he spent a couple of hours between flights from Germany back to the States. During that time, he signed autographs, chatted with fans, held a short press conference, and spoke to Priscilla, whom he later married, on the phone back in Germany.

You can read more about this and see some other images at the Elvis Presley Photos site.
